Benefits of a Carpet-Free Cat Tree

If you have allergies, the benefits of carpet-free cat trees are pretty obvious. Less carpeting means fewer places for dirt, dust, and dander to gather!

However, allergies aren’t the only reason to avoid a rug-covered cat gym. Other benefits include:

  • A more attractive design- some even look like modern art!
  • More durable materials- many are made of real wood
  • Less mess- no shredded pieces of carpet all over your house!
  • Dual-purpose- most can be used as shelves once your cat loses interest in them.

I had a carpeted cat tree for a long time. While it held up pretty well overall, it did get pretty raggedy looking towards the end.

My next purchase will definitely be one of these rug-free choices below! Let’s take a look, shall we?

Best Carpet-Free Cat Trees

1. PAWZ Road 48 Inch Multi-Level Cat Tree Modern Cat Tower

PAWZ Road 48 Inch Multi-Level Cat Tree Modern Cat Tower

The PAWZ 48″ Cat Tower is a great budget-friendly place to start on your carpet-free cat tree adventure.

Rather than using rugs to create a cozy perch for kitties, it uses removable faux fur mats. Let’s look at the features & pros, then the cons.

Features & benefits

  • Stylish modern design with neutral colors.
  • Space saver tree stands at 48″ high and only takes up 19×15″ of floor space.
  • Super heavy durable double layer base to add stability.
  • 4″ diameter posts for extra support.
  • Posts are fully wrapped in sisal to encourage scratching.
  • 4 platforms make it room enough for multiple cats.
  • Made with CARB-certified safe and non-toxic natural particle boards.

  • Not real wood
  • Claims a one-year warranty, but if damage occurs after 2 months, you have to pay for shipping for the replacement part.
  • A bit wobbly if you don’t secure it to a wall
  • Not big enough for large cat breeds

This is a great choice for those with small cats and a small budget.

I like that the faux fur mats are totally removable. If you want a tree totally sans fabric, just take them off.

Prefer a wall-mounted carpet-free cat tree? Check out this great find from CatissaCatTrees on Etsy!

Features & benefits

  • Choose from faux fur or natural sheepskin for the cushioning
  • It’s modular, so set it up however you want.
  • Made entirely with real wood
  • Roomy enough for most breeds
  • Free shipping to the US
  • Works great as a modern shelf once your cat gets tired of it.

  • Like all Etsy products, it can go out of stock. If it’s gone, check out their shop for similar items.
  • Pricey
  • Takes a few weeks to receive, so if you need it immediately it’s not a great option.
  • Not sure if I like the paint (also unclear what type of paint it is)

I’m not a big fan of the black paint, especially with the plain wood interior. I also like to know what type of paint is used and if it’s non-toxic.

That said, since you can customize your order, you could just ask for it without the paint. I checked out some of their other pieces and they look really beautiful sans stain.

3. Curvynest Modern Cat Tree

The Curvynest is one of my all-time favorite carpet-free cat trees. It has a gorgeous modern minimalist look that will look great in your home.

Features & benefits

  • Beautiful sinuous curves make it look like modern art
  • Totally carpet-free cat tree
  • Plenty of levels for more than one cat
  • Free shipping
  • The carpetless fiber weaving still gives cats a place to scratch
  • Comes in other colors
  • When cats bore of it, use it in your child’s playroom to store stuffed animals and other little toys.

  • Occasionally goes out of stock.
  • Expensive
  • Made with MDF versus real solid wood

I love the flowing style of the Curveynest. I think it would really complement any decor.

If this particular color isn’t there when you ready to shop, check out other color options from the brand.

4. New Age Pet ecoFLEX Kitty Klimber

New Age Pet ecoFLEX Kitty Klimber

While many of the other options on this list are likely eco-friendly, the New Age pet Kitty Klimber is the only one that really comes right out and claims to be so.

Features & benefits

  • Made of a non-toxic recycled plastic-wood polymer composite called Eco FLEX.
  • Material won’t warp, crack or split
  • Comes with two cozy removable mats and one scratch pad
  • Includes anti-tipping wall mount hardware
  • Easy to assemble, no tools needed.
  • Easy to clean, just wipe down.
  • 1 Year Manufacturer’s Warranty

  • Platforms are far apart, making it challenging for senior cats.
  • Very unsteady unless you secure it to the wall.
  • Only roomy enough for cats up to about 15 lbs (not big enough for a Maine Coon)
  • Pricey for what is essentially plastic

I’d recommend this one for small to medium kitties, but only if you can anchor it into your wall.

In other words, if you rent and can’t put holes in the wall, you may want to considering something else on our list.

I do like that it’s made with eco-friendly materials and is easy to assemble.

ecoFLEX Kitty Klimber - Cat Tree - Espresso
  • Made of ECOFLEX, a non-toxic recycled plastic-wood polymer composite material that won't warp, crack or split
  • Includes two cozy mats and one scratch pad
  • Easy, no-tools assembly
  • Easy, wipe clean
  • 1 Year Manufacturer's Warranty
  • Anti-tipping wall mount hardware included.
  • Included components: Climber, 2 mats, scratch pad

5. The Refined Feline Lotus Cat Tower

The Refined Feline Lotus Cat Tower

The Refined Feline Lotus Cat Tower is one of the most popular and best modern cat trees on Amazon, and it’s easy to see why. It’s positively lovely!

Features & benefits

  • Nice and tall at 69″ (which is tall to me, anyway)
  • It is somewhat carpeted, but you can’t really tell since it blends right in.
  • That carpet is also Berber material, not the cheap stuff on most cat trees.
  • Washable faux suede in and above the cave
  • Pads are held on by Velcro and can be replaced (or removed entirely)
  • Platforms are large enough for most cats.

  • Rather pricey
  • Levels are kind of spaced far apart, which isn’t great for older kitties who can’t jump well anymore.
  • Condo is not large enough for XL cat breeds
  • Very heavy

While it’s definitely among the more expensive carpet-free cat trees, it’s also built to last. Some reviewers say they’ve had theirs for over 6 years!

Plus, it’s just beautiful, isn’t it? If you can swing the initial investment, it’s totally worth it.

The Refined Feline Lotus Cat Tower Furniture, Multi-Level Cat Tree with Scratching Pad, Perches, House to Climb, Play, Relax for Kitty
  • Brown Berber carpet attached with Velcro
  • Sisal pad is perfect for scratching
  • Soft cushions with washable faux suede covers above and inside hide-a-way cubby
  • Assembly required; tools are included
  • 69 inch tall x 20 inch wide x 20 inch deep

6. CUPETS Wooden Cat Tree Modern Cat Furniture Cat Condo

CUPETS Wooden Cat Tree Modern Cat Furniture Cat Condo

For those who have very tiny apartments (or just don’t care for larger structures), the CUPETS is a fantastic little option.

Features & benefits

  • Stands at just 38″ tall and takes up 22×13.4 ” of floor space.
  • Roomy enough for two small cats.
  • Sisal-wrapped pillars
  • Soft cushion in the condo
  • Easy to assemble

  • Only large enough for cats up to 10lbs
  • Pricey for something made of laminated boards.

Although it’s a bit pricey for something that’s made of the same stuff my cheap bookshelves from Walmart are, it’s still a good option for tiny spaces and tiny kitties.

However, if your cat is larger than 10lbs, you’ll want to move on.

CUPETS 38 Inches Wooden Cat Tree Tower Modern Cat Climber Multiple Platforms Pet Products with Scratching Post, Activity Tree Pet Products for Cats
  • Multi-storey wooden platform design, the high quality laminated board ensures stability.
  • The pillars were surrounded by sisal and it attracts the cat's attention and helps keep your cat from damaging carpets, furniture, curtains.
  • The stylish and beautiful furniture style of this wooden cat tree is in harmony with your furniture style. There are soft cushions in the cat's kennel where the cat can sleep comfortably.
  • It is very easy to put together, it w ill take about 10-20 minutes to assembly them as you follow the installation instruction.
  • Size:22*13.4*38.6 inches.Suitable for 0-10lbs cats.

7. Katris Modular Cat Tree

My favorite modular cat tree (I’ve talked about it a lot in the past in case you haven’t noticed) also happens to be totally carpet-free!

Features & benefits

  • Completely modular, assemble it however you want.
  • Expandable (if you buy more than one, they work together)
  • Depending on how you configure it, it’s large enough for XL breeds.
  • Each block holds up to 300 pounds
  • Comes with free catnip

  • A bit pricey, especially if you need more than one set
  • No extra clips, so if you lose one, you’re in trouble
  • Made from cardboard versus wood

Although it’s pricey for something that’s made of cardboard, it’s still one of my favorite carpet-free cat trees. The cardboard is crazy strong and not just cheap shipping box material.

Once your kitty grows bored with it (sorry, but it’s bound to happen, cats are fickle), this becomes a fantastic addition to a playroom!

8. 60″ Henrietta Cat Tree

The Henrietta carpet-free cat tree from Wayfair is a great choice if you want something that looks like a real tree.

Features & benefits

  • 4 levels including the faux grass base.
  • All of the perches are adjustable. Swivel them around however you want.
  • Easy to pick up and carry to another room.
  • No tools needed to assemble.
  • Artificial leaves are designed to resist fading.
  • The leaves are also very well attached and shouldn’t fall off.
  • Includes 3 scratching pads that blend right in.

  • A bit wobbly
  • “Trunk” is hollow, which accounts for some of the wobbliness.
  • Some customers say it has far fewer leaves than pictured.
  • No way for cats to climb up through the levels (no hole in the perches)
  • No warranty

If you have your heart set on a carpet-free cat tree that looks more like the real deal, this is your best option.

While it does have some issues, the vast majority of users really like it.

wall mounted cat tree

Want modern cat wall shelves that fit into your carpet-free lifestyle? Check out this one by PetsHelperCo.

Features & benefits

  • Includes one round cat house, 5 hexagons & 1 round step
  • Two sizes
  • Three colors of wood to choose from
  • Made with eco-friendly birch wood
  • Non-toxic stain and paint
  • Multiple entrances in each hexagon
  • Free shipping

  • Extremely pricey compared to others on this list
  • Needs to be mounted onto your wall studs.
  • Ships from the Ukraine, so it will take some time to arrive

Yes, it’s very, very pricey, but it’s also quite beautiful and durable. It’s something that will last throughout your cat’s entire life and beyond.

As with all Etsy products, it could be gone when you get there. If that’s the case, check out PetsHelperCo for other similar options.

10. 69″ Cleopatra Cat Tree

The Cleopatra from Wayfair is a beautiful modern option for those who want something without carpeting.

Features & benefits

  • 4 tiers make it great for multiple cats
  • Non-skid base
  • Tip-resistant
  • Scratching pad on the side
  • Designed to resist tears and scratches
  • 1 Year Warranty
  • Removable cushion inside the condo, with a removable cover

  • Expensive considering it’s made from manufactured wood
  • Perches are really spread apart, so it’s a challenge for senior or munchkin cats.
  • While it has anti-tip features, it’s still wobbly
  • Cover on the cushion in the condo isn’t washable
  • Scratching pad is ONLY on the side

For the most part, this is a 4+ star cat tree. Some customers did complain about missing parts, so I recommend checking for all of them before you start assembling it.

The biggest issue is the single scratching pad on the side of the tree. It’s kind of high up, so I can’t really see any of my cats actually using it.

Final Recommendation

Obviously, I think they all have their benefits, otherwise they wouldn’t be on a list of the best carpet-free cat trees, right?

However, if you want me to just pick one for you, I’d go with the modular Tetris-like one!

It covers all the bases- no carpet, stylish, fun, practical, and useful once cats grow bored of it.

If you're on the hunt for the best carpet-free cat trees, I've got you covered (or uncovered, if you prefer)!
