Where to Find a Legit Cat Tree That Looks Like a Cactus

One day my life was cat-cacti-free and the next it was all over my Facebook new stream (side note, I’m currently obsessed with the word cacti, isn’t it fun to say?).

A quick note, though- this isn’t a cat tree in the sense that you’re thinking.

It doesn’t have the usual perches, hiding holes, and other bits and pieces you’d find in kitty furniture.

It’s more like a scratching post that your cat can climb. In a sense, it’s more “tree” than traditional cat trees!

Next, a word of warning: As with all crazy trendy things, knock offs are everywhere.

My friend dropped $30 on one that, when it arrived, fit in the palm of her hand. Turns out, the few positive reviews on it were all fake. Grrrr, right?

So, for my list of the top 5 best cactus awesome cat trees below, I paid super duper close attention to reviews.

I skipped any that only had a handful unless they offered photographic evidence (with one exception, #4).

So, the list is shorter than our usual cat tree recommendations, but I’d rather give you five good options than 10 so-so ones. 🙂

Top 5 Best Cat Trees That Look Like a Cactus

1. TOPKITCH Cactus Cat Tree Climbing Frame

TOPKITCH CACTUS CAT TREE CLIMBING FRAME

I had some concerns about this first one from TOPKITCH because it’s kind of pricey for something with only a small handful of reviews.

However, the photographs submitted by those reviewers show that it’s definitely as advertised (and not the handheld cactus my poor friend got from another seller).

Features & Pros

  • Handmade with natural wood
  • Covered in organically dyed sisal rope to encourage scratching.
  • All adhesives are non-toxic and pet-friendly.
  • Just one step to assemble (put the cactus on the base).
  • Strong and stable
  • Comes with bonuses, including a bell + cat activity ball.

Cons

  • Not a whole lot of reviews (even with photos, I get nervous)
  • This exact tree appears many times on Amazon from different sellers, so not sure WHO exactly “handmade” it.

Recommendation

I don’t have much negative to say about this cute cat tree that looks like a cactus!

It’s handmade, which I love because it means I’m supporting a smaller business.

Plus, based on the photos, it’s definitely not a palm-sized tree. It’s actually bigger than I thought it would be.

The price is a bit high for a scratching post, but far from the most expensive on this list. Plus, it’s worth it for a handmade item.

2. PetnPurr Cat Scratching Post with Teaser Ball

PETNPURR CAT SCRATCHING POST WITH TEASER BALL

The PetnPurr is a bit cheaper (okay, a lot cheaper) than my #1 pick, but that lower cost does come at a price.

Read on to learn the pros and cons.

Features & Pros

  • Affordable
  • Covered with sisal rope
  • Stands just over 2′ tall
  • Includes a fun little dangly ball
  • One-step assembly
  • Stable platform

Cons

  • A handful of reviewers say it doesn’t really last all that long.
  • Not as cute as the first one
  • Not stable enough for larger kitties

Recommendation

Usually, cuteness wouldn’t be a deciding factor, but when it comes to choosing the best cat tree that looks like a cactus, it definitely matters.

I mean, the whole reason you want this instead of a plain old scratching post is because it’s freaking adorable, right?

While the price is easier to swallow on this one, you do give up a bit of the “adorableness” factor.

Still, if you want a cat cactus and don’t have $80+ to spend, it’s a good option.

3. RiverNCats Cactus for Cats

 RiverNCats Cactus for Cats

If you thought the first one was pricey, wait until you see this one. Let me tell you, though, it’s worth every penny.

In fact, even with the sticker shock, it’s my #1 favorite.

Features & Pros

  • Stands at a whopping 47″ tall
  • Made with durable solid wood
  • Covered in strong sisal from top to bottom
  • Multiple color choices for the tree itself and the base (natural dyes)
  • Big enough for large cats
  • You can even add personalization!

Cons

  • Very pricey at just over $300
  • Expensive to ship (about $99)
  • Takes 4-6 weeks to ship

Recommendation

One funny note, the seller jokes that the materials used will make it as long-lasting as its namesake. Well, to a girl who managed to kill a cactus in a week flat, that’s not saying much!

Of course, the rest of the world doesn’t have quite the plant kiss of death that I have, I’m sure.

Jokes aside, this one truly is a work of art and a thing of beauty. If you can afford it, it’s hands down the best of the small bunch.

4. CreacionesLaLuna Cat Cactus

 CreacionesLaLuna Cat Cactus

I’m taking a huge chance sharing this one, because it has no reviews and the seller is relatively new to Etsy.

Honestly, I give more leeway to new Etsy sellers than those on Amazon, just because I know how hard it is to get that first sale.

It’s a little more affordable than my top pick, but there are a couple of reasons for that, which we’ll see below.

Features & Pros

  • Stands at just around 28″ tall, so it’s good for small spaces.
  • Handmade with real wood
  • Sisal rope covers the whole thing
  • Budget-friendly at just around $100
  • Can be made in different sizes and colors, chat with the seller for details.
  • Returns and exchanges accepted

Cons

  • No details about the type of dye or adhesives used. Is it non-toxic?
  • $50+ shipping from Spain.

Recommendation

Like I said, since this one has no reviews, you’ll have to decide for yourself if the risk is worth it.

I’ve known many Etsy sellers who struggled to get their first sale, though, so like I said, I give more leeway when there are no reviews.

The seller accepts returns and exchanges, so that gives me a bit more confidence.

It’s definitely cute, and I like that it’s a good size for people who live in tight quarters.

5. Cat Cactus Crochet Pattern

cat cactus pattern

This last one is for those of you who prefer to make your own cactus for your cat.

Ignore the dog, the patterns allow you to make two different sized cat cacti (one of which is actually big enough for a small pooch).

Features & Pros

  • Instant delivery, no waiting to get started!
  • You’ll get a  14-page detailed PDF pattern  to help you with every step.
  • Since it’s a pattern, you can adapt it to be a cave or a tree.
  • Easy enough for a beginner.

Cons

  • You have to actually know how to crochet, which I do not.
  • If you want to make it into a scratching post, you’ll need to know how to modify the design a bit.

Recommendation

I know it’s not an actual cactus cat tree, but I wanted an option for those of you who prefer to DIY your cat’s gear.

Personally, I couldn’t crochet my way out of a paper bag, so it’s not the option for me.

Final Recommendation

You already saw my top pick, but what if you can’t afford $400 (that’s about what it costs with shipping) for a cat scratching post?

If that’s the case, the first one from Amazon would be my second choice, followed by the Etsy pick in #4.
