If you’re okay with an open box, Nature’s Miracle high-sided litter box is a great litter box large enough for a Maine Coon.
It’s made for high-peeing cats, so it should be perfect for your Maine Coon.
It’s made by the same brand that makes the pet-safe cleaners that we’ve all used at some point to get rid of stinky odors!
Attributes

Overall, it’s the best choice for someone who wants an open litter box.
It manages to offer an easy solution for a Maine Coon’s or other large cat’s bathroom needs.

The comfortable access and ample interior space are obvious standout traits. But it’s hard not to love how easy this product’s rimmed sides make lifting it.
Due to this, the clean-up process and moving become effortless. I don’t often see this quality in open-top litter boxes.

Expert Tips

Things To Consider
Some factors to consider when choosing the best litter box for your Maine Coon cat include the size and type of box as well as where you’ll be placing it.
Let’s start with some basics.
Size
While even the largest cat will somehow manage to do their business in a teeny litter pan if they’re determined enough, it’s not ideal.
A tiny box can lead to great big Maine Coon litter box problems!
See, even if your Maine Coon does manage to squeeze his giant kitty behind into a tiny box, he’ll make a huge mess when he tries to cover said “business.” Do you want to clean cat pee and poop off the floor every time he goes?
No, I didn’t think so! See, size does matter! Male Maine Coons can reach 25 pounds and grow between 18 to 26″. Meanwhile, females can get up to almost 20 lbs and 16 to 24″ long.
That’s larger than many small-breed dogs! Seriously, the Maine Coon is larger than my brother’s Westie mix and dachshund combined!
So, what is a good guideline for selecting the perfect-sized litter box?
In general, the litter box should be one-and-a-half times the length of your cat from tip of the nose to base of the tail.
Type of Box
Forget “to be or not to be,” when it comes to litter boxes, the burning question is “to cover or not to cover?”
I’ve been a cat mom for about 24 years, and for at least 23 of those, I’ve had a covered litter box of some sort.
I’m not yet a Maine Coon mom (it’s the dream, though, and I have a mix that I am convinced is part MC), but I’ve had my share of big kitties.
So yes, you can have a covered box for a Maine Coon. However, you can also go with uncovered boxes if you prefer, as long as it’s big enough.
Placement
Where you plan to put the litter box matters quite a bit when choosing the right one, that goes for all cats, but even more so with XL litter boxes.
If you plan to stick it in a well-traveled area (even if that’s just your bathroom), then you’ll want an XL box with a lid.
On the other hand, if you’re tucking it under a cabinet or someplace totally out of the way, you can go with an uncovered XL box.
FAQs
ARE MAINE COON CATS HARD TO LITTER TRAIN?
Maine Coon cats aren’t hard to litter train since these cats are highly intelligent. But please, it’s essential to stay patient and don’t expect miracles as they’re still cats.
IS IT CRUEL TO KEEP MAINE COON CATS INDOORS?
It’s not cruel to keep Maine coon cats indoors. They’ll be perfectly fine inside as long as the cat gets enough mental and physical stimulation.
Final Word
Selecting the best cat litter box for your Maine Coon is a crucial step in ensuring their comfort and hygiene.
With the right size, design, and features, a litter box can make all the difference in your feline friend’s daily routine.
Remember, a happy Maine Coon means a clean and odor-free home. Choose wisely and give your gentle giant the royal treatment they deserve!

Great article. I used to have a couple maine coon cats and I could have used this back them!
My Maine Coon is 26” from tip of nose to base of tail… take that times the recommended 1.5 and that is 39”…. none of these are even the 26” ( and his tail adds another 12”. None of these are even close to being large enough…. guess I’m stuck using a storage tote still….
We don’t have a maine coon but we have a fluffy cat and she definitely does not like covered litter boxes, otherwise I would love one of the bench ones that looks like furniture!
I like the litter boxes that look like houses. That way people do not have to look at the cats poop.

Wow! Great line-up, every box has their own unique purpose and use. Got to check this thoroughly.
We lived in a small apartment in Chicago with our cat and had no where to keep the litter box except in the main area. We ended up finding one that actually looked like it belonged in the room and our kitten loved it! I think it’s great that some litter boxes now look designer for situations like that but that cats still like using them.
I really want to get a maine coon cat. I think they are so adorable. It’s nice to see some of the cat litter boxes that would work best for them.
I sincerely appreciated the table you made, with the side by side pros/cons comparisons for all of them! It will make selection much easier.
