I have to warn you, this cat news story is heartbreaking and extremely upsetting. When I read this poor cat’s story, I cried. A family from Clearfield, Utah is mourning the death of their beloved cat, Sage. Sage was a 6-year-old outdoor cat, who loved roaming around his neighborhood. This time, however, when he returned home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 8th, the family was shocked and horrified by Sage’s sight. No one is even sure how in the world poor Sage even managed to make it home in his condition, but as soon as he crawled through the door, he collapsed. Sage was beaten, his whiskers were cut off, his fur was shaven and his eyes were sealed with hot glue.
Family Mourns Beloved Cat After Losing Him to a Heinous Act
China Cassel, one of Sage’s owners, posted on her Facebook page: “This is Sage. He is our family Cat. He was beaten, and he was tortured. His whiskers were cut. His fur was shaved. His face was beaten. His ribs are snapped. His paws are broken. He can’t walk. He can’t speak. He was tortured with hot glue. His eyes are swollen shut. He is hurting. How he made it home, will never make sense.”
This is Sage. He is our family Cat. He is 6 years old. He is a outdoor guy, as well as a indoor loving cat. This morning…
The family immediately rushed him to the local vet, Animal Care Veterinary Hospital in Roy, Utah. The veterinarian at the facility, said that Sage was in such bad shape, he wasn’t sure he could survive. A few hours later, Sage had to be taken to the Advanced Veterinary Care in Salt Lake City, Utah. The facility is a fully accredited Level 1 veterinary trauma center that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Sage started to improve slightly overnight, but took a turn for the worse and sadly passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017.
Deborah Barnes, the President of the Human Society of Northern Utah, stated in an interview, about Sage’s case, “This is the worst case of abuse I’ve ever seen. It was just horrifying that someone would do this.”
A donation page has been set up by the Humane Society of Northern Utah. The money raised from the donations are for an award that leads to the capture of the person or persons involved in this horrific case of animal abuse and cruelty. As of Saturday night, the reward was at $42,600.00.
Final thoughts: I hope they catch and prosecute, to the fullest extent of the law, the person or persons who did this to Sage. I don’t know how anyone can to something like this to any animals, whether it is a cat, dog, horse or cow. No animal deserves this horrific suffering. In my opinion, when they catch whoever was involved, they should have the exact same thing done to them that they did to poor Sage.
