Best Rustic Cat Trees
When I hear the word “rustic,” my mind automatically pictures lots of dark wood, natural jute or wicker, and other materials that are right at home on a farmhouse or a mountain cabin.
So, that’s exactly what I looked for in my search for the best rustic cat trees. Take a look at what I found!
1. 5′ Handmade Cat Tree Shaped Like a Tree

Last, I wrote about cat trees that look like real trees. Too bad this gem wasn’t around when I researched that one. It definitely would have made the list.
FEATURES & benefits
- Made from natural wood and high-quality carpeting.
- Comes in any color, stain or carpet color of your choice.
- Easy to assemble, according to reviews.
- Measures 60″ x 30″ x 12″
- Branches are roomy enough for most cats.
- Ships from the US
CONS
- Pricey, plus an extra $75 to ship
RECOMMENDATION
You’ll notice that quite a few trees on this list have “pricey” as a con. Yes, nearly $500 is a lot for a cat tree, but you really do get what you pay for.
Most of these trees are handmade with real wood, which means they’ll last a lifetime. Plus, consider this- your purchase also helps support small businesses.
If your cat gets bored of it after a few years, you can always remove the carpeting and use it as a whimsical bookshelf!
If this one isn’t available, check out the Enchanted Home Designs Etsy shop here for other similar options.

2. MAU WOODEN CAT CONDO

If you’re looking for rustic yet posh, but this Wooden Cat Condo is fantastic. Let’s check out the features and pros, then discuss the few cons.
FEATURES & benefits
- Made with real tree wood and rope.
- Wood is treated with pet-safe materials to avoid rot.
- Comes in 3 colors.
- Two roomy woven baskets that come with removable, machine-washable cushions.
- Perches are big enough for large cats.
- Bottom level features a cushioned cat cave.
- Entirely handmade.
CONS
- Takes 8-10 weeks to ship
RECOMMENDATION
The only downside to this gorgeous tree is how long it takes to arrive.
Right now, you’ll have to wait from 2-3 months to receive it.
Still, it’s gorgeous, roomy enough for big cats and everything I look for in rustic cat trees!
If it’s gone, check out the Mau Store storefront for more options.

3. NATURAL MODERN TREE

You can’t get much more rustic than this super simple yet modern option by Kitty Cat Trees.
FEATURES & benefits
- Real solid natural wood construction
- Cats feel like they’re climbing up real tree
- Good for small spaces thanks to its fairly compact design.
- Hidden steel bolts reinforce it for added safety
CONS
- Pricey, and costs $50 to ship on top of that.
- Takes up to 2 months to arrive
RECOMMENDATION
It is expensive, I won’t lie. Still, considering the materials and added stability features, it’ll last you a lifetime.
Reviews are incredibly positive, with 5 stars almost across the board.
The only major problem is that it’s not really big enough for large breeds.
If this one is gone, check out their storefront for other options.

4. ACATSDOMAIN 8-PIECE CAT TREE

While the picture isn’t the best, don’t let that stop you from taking a second look at this awesome rustic cat tree available on Etsy.
As the name implies, it comes with 8 pieces that you can position however you like on your walls.
FEATURES & benefits
- Made with birch wood
- Poles are wrapped in sisal
- Roomy house for larger cats
- Ships free, made in the USA
- 90-day guarantee (for defects)
- Get it unstained or stained (see cons though)
CONS
- A little expensive, yet still fair for handmade
- It’ll cost you quite a bit extra to get it stained
RECOMMENDATION
While I’m not loving the massive price jump from unstained to stained, I do have to admit that I know nothing about the cost of staining something. Maybe it’s justified?
Other than that, though, I love that this one comes with so many different pieces. That condo looks super roomy, so a Maine Coon should be able to use it.

5. FEANDREA 34.6 INCHES CAT TREE

FEANDREA makes a huge line of cat trees, but if this is among their most rustic. It’s also perfect for tight spaces, like an apartment.
FEATURES & benefits
- Rustic style reminds me of a Wild Wild West saloon!
- Crated with dark wood veneer.
- Super soft cushions made from faux fur.
- Hook-and-loop fasteners on cushions make them easy to take off and clean.
- Sisal-wrapped post
CONS
- Only big enough for small to medium cats (15 lbs max)
- Some complain that it’s a pain to assemble.
RECOMMENDATION
FEANDREA appears on most of my cat tree lists for a good reason. They have a great reputation for making quality products.
Sadly, this one is too small for large breed cats, like the Savannah.
- Vintage Now Also for Cats: The dark wood veneer of this cat tree, as well as the contrasting white fur pads, lend this piece of cat furniture the flair of a rustic, snow-covered alpine hut
- For Clean Cuddly Cats: The cuddly cushions made of white imitation fur are attached to the platforms and in the cottage with hook-and-loop fasteners. They are also easy to remove and easy to clean
- Where’s Whiskers’ Favorite Spot? On one of the spacious perches of the cat tower, or in the spacious cat cave? No matter which place your cat chooses, the cat condo always offers the highest stability due to the stable engineered wood boards
- Claw Sharpness Test: The post of this cat tree is completely wrapped in sisal. Your cat can sharpen her claws to her heart’s content on this and the small scratch mat—better than on your sofa, isn’t it?
- Not Satisfied Yet? FEANDREA provides you with professional customer service both before and after your purchase; don’t wait any longer, add this to your home today!
6. ECO-FRIENDLY WOOD CAT SCRATCHING POST
Talk about rustic, right? This one on Etsy is made with beautiful reclaimed wood, so it’s also eco-friendly!
FEATURES & benefits
- Crafted with wood from standing dead trees, not live trees.
- Custom-made, so you can get it made in just the right size for your kitty.
- Solid wood and natural jute materials.
- Made with metal, glues, or oils
- Free shipping
CONS
- Right now, only custom orders available, so it can take a while to arrive.
- It’s a bit pricey
RECOMMENDATION
If you’re willing to wait a bit to get it, there really aren’t any downsides to this beautiful option. While it’s a smidge pricey, I still find it quite fair.

7. Outdoor Rustic Cedar Cat Gym

Want to create the ultimate outdoor cat play center? Take a look at this nifty cedar kitty gym on Cats Play Furniture!
FEATURES & benefits
- Large enough for big cats
- At 62″ tall and 78″ wide, it’s roomy enough for multiple kitties
- Can be used both inside and outdoors
- Made with natural cedar
- Ships with all hardware and special square head screwdriver bit required for assembly
- Made in the USA
CONS
- Expensive, and costs $98 to ship on top of that
- Too big to use as an indoor cat gym
- You need a good chunk of flat yard space for it
RECOMMENDATION
My backyard is way too rocky and uneven for something like this, but if I had the space and the budget, I’d definitely snatch it up.
It’s definitely large enough for pretty much all cat breeds. Leave it as is or stain it darker for an even more rustic look.

My Favorite Rustic Cat Trees to DIY
If you’re lucky enough to live in a woodsy area, you can make your own rustic cat trees with fallen branches. Here are a couple of videos that I just love.

2. Homemade Real Tree Wood Indoor Cat Tree Idea
3. DIY Rustic Cat Tree Made with Salvaged Wood
Final Recommendation
Like I said earlier, the Mau cat condo is my favorite, but only by a small margin. Obviously, I like all of these, otherwise I wouldn’t put them on my list of the best rustic cat trees, right?
The perfect choice for you depends on your budget, the size of your kitties, and your personal tastes. You really can’t go wrong with any of them, though!
